Chief Heat Officers & Other Civic Leaders Are Tackling Climate Change & Strengthening communities

The article explores the role of Chief Heat Officers (CHO) and other civic leaders in addressing climate change and supporting marginalized communities. These CHOs are appointed officials who lead efforts to reduce urban heat islands, which disproportionately impact vulnerable communities. They work with community organizations and city officials to implement solutions such as green roofs, tree planting, and cool pavement. In addition to mitigating the effects of climate change, CHOs prioritize equity and inclusivity, recognizing the historical and ongoing injustices that have left certain populations more vulnerable to climate impacts. The article highlights examples of CHOs and other leaders working to create more resilient and just communities.
